 EU Ombudsman to Appoint Bulgarian Aide

The European Union's Ombudsman Nikiforos Diamandouros is planning to appoint a Bulgarian lawyer as his legal advisor after the Balkan country's accession on January 1, 2007. The Bulgarian will consult Diamandouros on legal matters and cases emerging from the country. Bulgaria's own ombudsman Ginyo Ganev and chief prosecutor Boris Velchev both vowed to help Diamandouros handpick the candidate.   read more

 Health Ombudsman May Watch Out for Patients in Bulgaria

Bulgaria's parliament nodded at first reading Wednesday a project bill on patients' rights, suggesting that the state appoints a health ombudsman, Darik News revealed. The ombudsman would see to it that patients' rights aren't violated and that each is compensated if their health suffers due to an experiment, or a therapeutic or diagnostic procedure.   read more
