Information day for promoting
the ombudsman institution on local level
Smolyan, October 16, 2002
On October
16, 2002, in Smolyan was held an information day for promoting the
ombudsman institution, organized by the Center for the Study of
Democracy jointly with the Bulgarian Youth Legion Stephan Stambolov
Smolyan.
Representatives of the municipal councils in Smolyan, Nedelino,
Banite, Zlatograd and Chepelare, judges from the regional and district
courts, prosecutors, members of public councils to combat corruption
in the region, senior students from the First High School in Smolyan,
and journalists took part in the event.
Mr. Deyan Ashkov, Chairman of the Bulgarian Youth Legion Stephan
Stambolov, presented the anti-corruption initiatives on district
level. The students shared the experience of the work of the District
Youth Parliament, which takes part in the municipal council's sessions.
They expressed their interest towards creating a school ombudsman.
In the course of the discussion specific questions were
raised to the lecturers Ms. Krassimira Natan from the Office
of the Sofia Municipality Local Civic Mediator, Ms. Rada Kulekova,
former mediator for the Mladost region in Sofia, Ms. Lidia Kiskinova,
Municipal Counsellor in Smolyan, Mr. Emil Kostov from Chepelare
Municipality, and Mr. Deyan Ashkov.
