Information day for promoting the ombudsman institution on local level

On October 30, 2002, in the town of Troyan an information day for popularization of the ombudsman institution and the possibilities for its establishment it in Bulgaria was organized jointly by the Center for the Study of Democracy and Znanie Association, Lovech.

Mr. Hristo Ormandjiev, Veliko Tarnovo Municipality Anti-Corruption Ombudsman, and Mr. Svetoslav Georgiev and Ms. Krassimira Natan, experts at the office of the Sofia Municipality Local Civic Mediator introduced the foreign experience and legislation, as well as their work. Specific information was presented, concerning the number of the complaints filed, consultations and recommendations given by the civic mediator, the number of the cases solved, the relations with the administration.

Ms. Valentina Alexandrova, municipal counsellor, expressed the intention of the municipal council to introduce the ombudsman institution in Troyan municipality. In this regard she asked certain questions, connected with the financing and independence of the ombudsman, the election and required qualifications of the candidate, the necessary regulations and the status of the civic mediator.

Municipal counsellors, representatives of the district court and the municipality, representatives of the Democratic Union of Women and the Home for Children without Parents, media, and citizens took part in the event.
